Jazz at St Mary's - 22 November
St Mary’s Church, Battersea
St Mary's Church, Battersea, Battersea Church Road, London SW11 3NA, UK
We are delighted to announce that the St Mary’s Jazz Evenings will be making a long-awaited return on Friday 22nd November at 8pm, featuring the Hugo Jennings trio and very special guest, alto saxophonist Sam Braysher. There will also be a bar provided by local pub, The Woodman.

Sam Braysher is a London-based alto player who received widespread acclaim for the first two albums released previously under his own name, both of which feature renowned international collaborators. Golden Earrings, with New York pianist Michael Kanan, was described as “delightful and surprising” by Dave Gelly in the Observer, while his recent trio album with Jorge Rossy (Brad Mehldau Trio) and Tom Farmer, was praised in Jazzwise as “a triumph of intelligence and sentiment”.
When leading his own bands, Sam takes a particular interest in interpreting lesser-played items from the American Songbook and jazz canon. His most recent album, released this year, takes a closer look at the fascinating music of Kurt Weill.
Sam will be joined by Hugo Jennings on piano, Lorenzo Morabito on bass, and Louis Brown on drums. Hugo Jennings is a jazz pianist, singer and bandleader, orchestral conductor, teacher, and music curator. He has established himself as a respected name on the London jazz scene, both through his playing and through his work as founder and director of the highly successful Battersea Jazz Festival. His music is inspired by Barry Harris, Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, Cedar Walton, Thelonious Monk, the Great American Songbook, and a variety of other jazz and classical composers.

Hugo has performed regularly at various jazz venues and concert halls across London and Britain, such as Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club, Hampstead Jazz Club, The Junction, Battersea Power Station, Pizza Express Dean Street, Southampton Modern Jazz Club, and the Clapham Grand. He has appeared alongside high-profile British artists such as Alex Garnett, Steve Fishwick, Tom Smith, Fraser Smith, Sam Braysher, and countless others, as well as American musicians including Adam Moezinia and Chuck Redd. In addition to his performing as a jazz pianist and singer, Hugo also works as conductor of Social London Orchestra and the South London Jazz Orchestra. He has led his eponymous trio for over three years.
Doors open at 7:40pm, with music starting at 8pm
