Drawing inspiration from hard bop legends like Horace Silver and Jackie McLean, Boizi infuses his compositions with elements of Gospel and contemporary jazz, creating a sound that is both rich and innovative. His sextet, featuring talented musicians such as Sacha Harlan (drums), Lauren Marie Breen (alto saxophone), Jacob Wilson (tenor saxophone), Tom Sheen (double bass), and Kezia Buoma (piano), delivers electrifying performances that have captivated audiences across prestigious venues like Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express Soho, and the Jazz Café.
Boizi’s journey into jazz began in his secondary school gospel choir, where his early exposure to music shaped his approach to composition and performance. His passion for jazz deepened through mentorship from established musicians like Mark Kavuma and Andy Grappy, leading him to explore the intricacies of jazz theory and improvisation.
With performances at major festivals such as We Out Here, Boizi continues to push boundaries, blending tradition with modern influences to craft a unique musical identity. His upcoming shows, including a debut at the Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall, mark another milestone in his rising career.
