Christ-Stéphane Boizi is a trombonist, composer, and bandleader making waves in the UK jazz scene. Currently in his third year at Trinity Laban, he draws inspiration from legendary trombonists J.J. Johnson and Slide Hampton, as well as hard bop icons like Horace Silver and Art Blakey. His music seamlessly blends hard bop, gospel, and contemporary jazz, creating a distinctive and dynamic sound.
Leading the Christ-Stéphane Boizi Sextet, he has performed at We Out Here Festival, the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room, Jazz Refreshed, and Alfie’s Jazz Club. With bold compositions and a powerful stage presence, Christ-Stéphane is an exciting new voice in jazz. He draws on the influences of hard bop artists including Horace Silver and Jackie McLean and is particularly inspired by Art Blakey and his use of instrumentation with the Jazz Messengers. Christ-Stéphane blends this hard-bop psyche with elements of Gospel and contemporary jazz in his own stunning compositions.
