Jazz at St Mary's is honoured to be welcoming legendary American pianist, Pete Malinverni, to Battersea on Friday 20th November. Backed by a top class rhythm section, he will present a night of jazz standards, songs from the Great American Songbook, bebop tunes, and much more, alongside singer Hugo Jennings.

Doors open at 7:30pm for an 8pm performance. There will also be a bar selling refreshments.

Pianist, composer, educator Pete Malinverni has been a fixture on the New York City Jazz scene since moving there in the early 1980s. As well as recording sixteen albums as a bandleader, he has performed alongside a host of masters on the scene there, including Joe Lovano, Vernel Fournier, Charles Davis, Mel Lewis, Dennis Irwin, Karrin Allyson, Steve Wilson and many, many others. These collaborations have happened in studios and on stages like the Carnegie Recital Hall, the Caramoor Festival, the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, the Rome Music and Image Festival, the Santiago (Chile) Jazz Festival and others, as well as in New York's great clubs, such as the Village Vanguard, Birdland, the Blue Note, the Village Gate, Bradley's, Smalls and Mezzrow.

Pete is proud of his work in education, too. After tenures at William Paterson University and New York University, he now serves as Chair of Jazz Studies at the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College, State University of New York, just a few miles north of the City.

Hugo Jennings is a jazz pianist, singer and conductor. He has established himself as a respected name on the London jazz scene, through his playing, knowledge of the history of the music, and his work as founder and director of the Battersea Jazz Festival. Hugo has performed regularly at various jazz events, venues, and concert halls across London and Britain, such as Pizza Express Dean Street, The EFG London Jazz Festival, Battersea Power Station, and the Clapham Grand, has made appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe, and performed in cities including Pisa, Valencia and Athens. He has appeared alongside countless high-profile British artists, as well as American musicians including Jerry Weldon, Chuck Redd, Gabrielle Stravelli, Pat O’Leary, and Adam Moezinia. In addition to his performing as a jazz pianist and singer, Hugo also works as conductor of Social London Orchestra and the South London Jazz Orchestra.
