Deschanel Gordon Trio
Deschanel Gordon is one of the most preeminent young pianists on the London music scene. He will be bringing his eponymous trio to St Mary’s Battersea for an exciting afternoon of jazz standards, original compositions, and music from different traditions.
Location: Saturday 6th June, 3:00pm, St Mary’s Battersea
Deschanel was born in Hackney and attended youth programmes such as the Hackney Creative Jazz Ensemble and the Julian Joseph Jazz Academy. Growing up he was surrounded by a wide range of music from gospel to reggae, and was inspired aged ten by a video of virtuoso pianist Oscar Peterson, which sparked his love of jazz.
He has made waves on the UK jazz scene since winning BBC Young Jazz Musician in 2020. One of the brightest prospects of his generation, as well as being a member of Olivia Dean's band he has worked with the likes of Mark Kavuma, Cassie Kinoshi’s Seed, Nubya Garcia, Courtney Pine, Ezra Collective, Jean Toussaint, Patrick Bartley and Joe Farnsworth. His music embodies swing, groove, and his Jamaican heritage. He has performed at many of London’s best-known jazz venues, including the 606 Club, Ronnie Scott’s, Jazz Café, Barbican and Cadogan Hall. He has also travelled widely, playing at jazz festivals in Europe and the USA, including Moods in Zurich, New York’s Winter Jazz Festival, Jazz TM in Romania and Fasching in Sweden.
