Sula
‘Sula’ is a new london-based trio project made up of drummer Miranda Radford, bassist Aleks Dimitrova and pianist Kezia Abuoma. All currently studying jazz at Trinity Laban, these exciting young musicians have come up through hailed organisations like Tomorrow’s Warriors, mentored by the likes of Nikki Yeoh and Deschanel Gordon and Will Cleasby. As both bandleaders and sidewomen, they have performed at venues such as The Vortex, The Jazz Cafe and Dizzy’s Club in New York. These three unique voices have come together to play both their original compositions and other music inspired by the energetic, contemporary sound of Kris Davis, Kenny Kirkland and Jeff “Tain” Watts.
Miranda Radford is a 19-year-old drummer who is most definitely ‘up and coming’ on the London jazz scene. Her influences and inspirations include the work of jazz legends such as Tony Williams, Max Roach, Wayne shorter and Cedar Walton. Miranda has performed at venues such as Love Supreme, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Dizzy’s Jazz Club and more.

This year, the Battersea Jazz Festival is raising money for the Lily Foundation. The Lily Foundation is the UK's leading charity dedicated to fighting mitochondrial disease. We’re working towards a world in which every mitochondrial disease patient has a voice and access to treatment, support to improve their life and, ultimately, a cure. 10 million people in the UK suffer from diseases in which mitochondrial dysfunction is believed to be involved, and every other day in the UK a baby is born that will develop mitochondrial disease. The Lily Foundation is fighting to change this. £1 of every ticket you purchase will be donated directly to the Foundation’s work.
