Hugo Jennings
Pianist, Singer
Hugo Jennings is a London-based jazz pianist and singer who plays mostly bebop and swing. He studied for undergraduate and masters degrees at Durham University, and then began studying jazz piano privately with Rob Barron in 2020. He takes inspiration from pianists such as Barry Harris, Sonny Clark, Junior Mance, and Cedar Walton, as well as composers such as Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Maurice Ravel, and George Gershwin. He also composes his own tunes and adapts popular tunes from the first half of the 20th century to his own style. He has led the Hugo Jennings Trio, along with Lorenzo Morabito on bass and Louis Brown on drums, for two years. He has performed regularly at various jazz venues, and concert halls, such as Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club, Hampstead Jazz Club, The Junction, Battersea Power Station, and the Clapham Grand. In addition to his work as a jazz pianist and singer, he is the founder and director of the Battersea Jazz Festival, conductor of the Social London Orchestra, a freelance piano and singing teacher, and a curator of many jazz events across South London. Since January 2024, he has worked as the conductor of the South London Jazz Orchestra.
