Jazz at St Mary's makes its return with a night celebrating one of the foremost names in jazz history: Nat King Cole. A trio of some of London's finest musicians will be performing many of the tunes which defined his career, at one of London's most beautiful churches, St Mary's Battersea.

Doors open at 7:30pm for an 8pm performance. There will also be a bar selling refreshments.

Though he is now known primarily as a singer, Nat King Cole was one of the finest pianists in the genre's history. His 1940s trio featuring guitarist Oscar Moore and bassist Wesley Prince was Capitol Records' highest-selling trio of the decade, and the group left a treasure trove of hits, lesser-known gems, and original compositions.

Pianist and singer Hugo Jennings will be leading a trio made up of the same instruments to present a programme celebrating both this era of Cole's life, as well as some of the tunes which defined the later part of his career. Expect an enjoyable night of music-making of the highest quality.

Hugo Jennings is a jazz pianist, singer and conductor. He has established himself as a respected name on the London jazz scene, through his playing, knowledge of the history of the music, and his work as founder and director of the Battersea Jazz Festival. Hugo has performed regularly at various jazz events, venues, and concert halls across London and Britain, such as Pizza Express Dean Street, The EFG London Jazz Festival, Battersea Power Station, and the Clapham Grand, has made appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe, and performed in cities including Pisa, Valencia and Athens. He has appeared alongside countless high-profile British artists, as well as American musicians including Jerry Weldon, Chuck Redd, Gabrielle Stravelli, Pat O’Leary, and Adam Moezinia. In addition to his performing as a jazz pianist and singer, Hugo also works as conductor of Social London Orchestra and the South London Jazz Orchestra.
