Cannonball Adderley's Fiddler on the Roof
The stunning St Mary's Battersea will host a special night on Friday 16th October celebrating the music of Cannonball Adderley, one of the great musicians of jazz history, and in particular his album featuring the music from “Fiddler on the Roof”. Best-known for his soul jazz hit “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy”, written by Joe Zawinul, as well as his appearance on Miles Davis’s “Kind of Blue”, Adderley was one of the foremost saxophonists and bandleaders of the 1950s and 60s. His album, “Fiddler on the Roof”, features energetic and beautiful interpretations of music from the famous musical, including tunes such as “Tradition”, “To Life”, “Matchmaker”, and many more.
Doors open at 7:30pm for an 8pm performance. There will also be a bar selling refreshments.
Pianist Hugo Jennings and saxophonist Tom Smith will lead a band of some of the very best musicians in London as they perform arrangements from the album as well as other tunes and arrangements from various Cannonball Adderley bands.

Hugo Jennings is a jazz pianist, singer and conductor. He has established himself as a respected name on the London jazz scene, through his playing, knowledge of the history of the music, and his work as founder and director of the Battersea Jazz Festival. Hugo has performed regularly at various jazz events, venues, and concert halls across London and Britain, such as Pizza Express Dean Street, The EFG London Jazz Festival, Battersea Power Station, and the Clapham Grand, has made appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe, and performed in cities including Pisa, Valencia and Athens. He has appeared alongside countless high-profile British artists, as well as American musicians including Jerry Weldon, Chuck Redd, Gabrielle Stravelli, Pat O’Leary, and Adam Moezinia. In addition to his performing as a jazz pianist and singer, Hugo also works as conductor of Social London Orchestra and the South London Jazz Orchestra.
